| Bologna, with its huge range of food shops, restaurants, and markets, is Italy's food capital. The shopping is excellent in Bologna and there is much to see in the city's medieval centre, characterised by narrow, arcaded streets. Highlights of Bologna include San Petronio, one of Italy's finest Gothic brick buildings. In the church of San Domenico the tomb of Saint Dominic lies beneath a magnificent renaissance sculpture. There is a range of medieval and renaissance palaces in Bologna, and the excellent Archaeological Museum which houses a collection of national importance. Two leaning towers of Bologna, the Torre degli Asinelli and the Torre Garisenda are all that survive of the hundreds of private fortress towers dating from the Middle Ages.
