| European Motorhome Rental Stations: Germany > Regensburg |
| |
| One of the largest historic German cities to survive World War II intact, and the unofficial capital of north-eastern Bavaria, Regensburg stands proudly on the banks of the River Danube. The narrow streets and squares of the old city of Regensburg retain much of their former atmosphere, accentuated by the survival of many medieval towers built by the ambitious and wealthy aristocracy. The Dom St Peter is one of the country's great Gothic churches, with rich sculptural embellishment, while the Museum der Stadt Regensburg (City Museum) is housed in a former monastery. A medieval air prevails near the river, with its Gothic stone bridge and ancient salt store. The princes of Thurn and Taxis ruled here; the Thurn und Taxis Palace stands just outside the city centre of Regensburg.
