| Kiefersfelden in Upper Bavaria is the border town to Austria. Apposite of Kiefersfelden lies Kufstein in Tirol. A peaceful little town that epitomises rural Tirolean charm, Kufstein lies in the shadow of the Kaisergebirge Alpine range at 550 metres (1,805 feet) above sea level. Its location near the German border, on a major transit route, ensures a high volume of both summer and winter visitors. The pride of the town is the Heldenorgel (Heroes' Organ), billed as the world's largest open-air organ, whose 4,307 pipes commemorate the same number of local victims of both World Wars. The fortress, in part built in the 16th century, houses an interesting regional museum (Heimatmuseum).
