| Frankfurt nicknamed "Mainhattan" because of its office-tower skyline, Frankfurt is Germany's financial and publishing centre and has the country's main international airport. The cosmopolitan character of Frankfurt am Main reflects the fact that a fifth of the population are non-German immigrants. Frankfurt is also a historic city; the Romans were here and the German emperors were crowned in the Dom. The old town of Frankfurt was obliterated by bombing, but something of its atmosphere remains around the cobbled square known as the Römerberg. Frankfurt has an array of fine museums; they include the Historical Museum and the Museum of Pre- and Early History, and on the left bank of the River Main, the Städel Art Institute, the German Cinema Museum, and the Museum of Decorative Arts. The Senckenberg Natural History Museum is one of the best of its kind.
