| Annecy is arguably the most attractive town in the Savoy lakeland region. It is situated beneath towering, snow-capped mountains on Lake Annecy, little more than a half-hour drive from Geneva. Elegant villas and hotels tumble down to the edge of the lake, where you can swim, windsurf, or take a boat trip. With flower-bedecked bridges over the canals and lavish lawns and gardens in Annecy, there is almost permanent colour in the town. The best view of Annecy and the lake is from the 12th-century castle, which stands on a hill above the town.
